Special Campsite located inside Serengeti National Park

Hippo Trails Camp provides accommodation under canvas in large classic style tents with on demand hot water and flush toilets.

The tents, elevated on wood platforms, are fashionably decorated with comfortable furnishings including a king size or twin beds, a writing desk, luggage racks and a sitting area with chairs and coffee table.

The location, quite near Retima Hippo pool, is a perfect launching point for wildlife viewing to most of the hotspots in northern and central Serengeti. Leave camp after breakfast with a picnic lunch and spend the day exploring, or get an early start and leave with breakfast, returning to camp for lunch and an afternoon siesta.

From the camp’s site there are beautiful views down to the river. There is plenty of room to relax in the lounge tent, where you’ll find complimentary wi-fi. Meals are served in the dining tent which also offers a full bar.

Authentic luxury

A great deal of thought has gone into the detail of each tent and, as you would expect in a property of this standard, an in-tent safe, hairdryer, toweling robes, a gas fired heater for use on cold nights, leather fasteners with brass buckles on windows and doors and an array of other carefully thought out finishing touches are only some of the surprises we have in store for our guests.

The camp will consist of 8 accommodation tents, each measuring 45 square metres to include a private verandah. A two-bedroomed family tent will also be available for guests travelling with small children

Each tent will sit atop a wooden platform raised 30 centimeters from the ground and will have a generous sleeping area complete with lounge space. An ensuite bathroom with “his and hers” wash hand basins, large shower and proper flush toilet will complete each guest tent. The family tent will be appointed to the same high standards.

Our chef, Axel Janssen, studied at one of the most prestigious schools in Europe and perfected his culinary art in several Michelin star restaurants. by absorbing local influences he has created his own highly appreciated cuisine: a fusion of exquisite European and African delights based on seasonal specialties. From breakfast with warm, oven crisp breads and freshly squeezed juices, to lunch with carefully selected brasserie dishes to the culinary feast for your taste buds at dinner.
